Defend Traditional Marriage

“The Bible is being called hate literature. Clearly, the Church is in the crosshairs. There will be growing pressure for the Church to comply or to be shut down.” – Archbishop Terrence Prendergast, Canada

Imagine this: “You are summoned to a tribunal where you cannot have a defense lawyer and you cannot record the proceedings nor have a witness present. The people judging and prosecuting you have no legal qualifications. The accusation is ambiguous, having to do with ideas the state does not like. The penalties could include fines equal to several thousands of dollars, public recanting, and rehabilitation classes.”

Neil Di Carlo

Neil Di Carlo trumped Senator Saland by 92 votes in the 41st district primary after absentee and write-in ballots were counted for the Republican and Conservative parties (unofficial BOE counts). Di Carlo and Senator Saland each won one line: Di Carlo won over 81% of conservative votes while Senator Saland, after alienating his base, won a Pyrrhic victory on the Republican line by only 1%.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s office is investigating the disappearance of an election seal that was holding closed a bag of ballots that have yet to be counted in the too-close-to-call primary between Sen. Steve Saland and Neil Di Carlo, a local elections official confirmed.

Erik Haight, the Republican elections commissioner in Dutchess County, said staff at the board noticed this morning that a “heavy plastic seal” was missing from one of the poll bags located in a supposedly secured room to prevent them from being tampered with before the official counting process begins.

NEW YORK, August 7, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Since LifeSiteNews.com broke the news that President Barack Obama had accepted the invitation to speak at the major fundraiser for New York Catholic Charities in October (the website for the event now also lists Mitt Romney as a speaker), there has been much discussion over the president’s upcoming appearance.  While calls for comment into the Archdiocese of New York have not been returned, a blog featured on the main page of the archdiocesan website defends the invite of Obama to the October 18 Al Smith Dinner as “important in this time of pathologically toxic politics.”

The transformation of Chick Fil A from a fast food place that most liberals had never even heard of into the "Enemy of the People" is a reminder of the speed at which progressivism travels forward and backward in time. A few months ago the CEO of Chick Fil A would have done nothing worse than echo a consensus so mainstream that it was adopted as a campaign position by the leftiest Democrat to sit in the White House. A few months later that same position is so outrageous that it leads to mass boycotts, threats of violence and mayors of dysfunctional urban centers threatening to drive the reactionary chicken franchise out of their cities.

“Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”—Benjamin Franklin

When Alexis de Tocqueville visited the United States in the 1830s, the scene the European encountered was confusing to him. The politicians prayed, the pastors were willing to preach on politics from a Biblical viewpoint, and neither group tried to exert control over the other.  They were symbiotic, and as a result, the nation was good. The people were virtuous, and the standards of society, and in the body politic, were largely followed.

State Sen. James Alesi, a Republican from Rochester, was one of four GOP defectors who made the landmark passage of New York’s gay marriage bill possible. He announced Wednesday he will not seek reelection, saying he feels that vote weakened him politically.

will not seek reelection this fall.

Our Ken Lovett reports:

Sen. James Alesi (R-Rochester) told the Daily News Wednesday night that he believes his vote in favor of the landmark gay marriage legislation would have severely hampered his chances in a GOP primary this year.

He said the vote — which passed 33-29 due to the GOP defectors — cost him the support of the leadership of the local Republican and Conservative parties. They are now backing his primary opponent.

“I’ve gotten a lot of support from Democrats and the gay community, but unfortunately they can’t vote in a Republican primary,” said Alesi, now in his eighth term.

Alesi was the first state Senate GOPer to commit publicly to supporting gay marriage.

I’m sure that you’ll agree with me that American people’s morality and virtue have been on a downslide for several decades, and getting worse every day. We always say that ‘history repeats itself,’ but you’ll be amazed to see how true that is when Dr. Shanon Brooks, co-founder and president of Monticello College and author presents his inspiring history and education message called ReValue America. ReValue America is about strengthening America not through the top-down approaches of government policies and initiatives, but from the bottom-up, through healthy individuals, families, and communities. It’s about rethinking what education means in our lives and building stronger, wiser families.

That's just the reality of political life.  As much as we like Mark, forgive him his indiscretion, and appreciate him individually, we feel we deserve representatives who honor their campaign commitments.  Or maybe we don't, if Marie and Charles' opinion is any gauge.

These attacks continue to grow stronger and without an understanding of how to defend marriage and the reasons behind the break-down of marriage, we will continue to see our culture slide into the anti-marriage mentality. Before I get into the reasons why same-sex marriage is gaining ground we need to explore some of the fundamental reasons why same-sex “marriages” are not good for those in them or society.

Push back against the passage of the same-sex marriage law is already occurring across the state, including a town clerk who doesn't want her name on a same-sex couple's marriage license and a Central New York limo driver says he won't be taking same-sex couples to their wedding in his limo. Our Katie Gibas reports on the backlash and what the legal ramifications could be.

The leaders of the homosexual equivalency movement are dedicated to building a society where the positive law of the Nation forces us all to call to be a marriage what can never be a marriage - or face the police power of the State. They scored what they believe was a decisive "victory" for their brave new world in New York last week. History will prove them wrong. However, with the tragic act of the legislature in New York, hostility toward Christians will continue to grow.

Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo sidesteps questions about whether he would run for president in 2016, but Republican Rudy Giuliani believes he ought to run, because of his success in pushing through the Empire State’s new law allowing same-sex marriage, reports the New York Post.
~  Oh...come on?  You can't get any better than this.  Giuliani thinks Cuomo is a good candidate for President because Cuomo passed the same sex marriage bill?  Now I think this is the big qualifying issue,  don't you?  ~ C4F

In a serious of anecdotes about the behind-the-scenes workings of the weeks leading up to Friday’s historic vote to legalize same-sex marriage, The New York Times reports that Sen. Greg Ball was looking for major campaign help if he were going to vote “yes” himself.

Ball, a Republican from Patterson, Putnam County, wanted to know that national Republican figures—namely, former Vice President Dick Cheney—would be willing to campaign for him for taking the politically risky move of backing gay marriage.

As New York enacted a law late Friday that legalizes same-sex marriage in the state, the Roman Catholic bishops of New York released a statement saying they now expect efforts to enact laws that go after churches that insist on teaching the "timeless truths" about marriage and family.

In the 35th-floor conference room of a Manhattan high-rise, two of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s most trusted advisers held a secret meeting a few weeks ago with a group of super-rich Republican donors.

Over tuna and turkey sandwiches, the advisers explained that New York’s Democratic governor was determined to legalize same-sex marriage and would deliver every possible Senate vote from his own party.

You won't find this type of candid footage on CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC or even Fox News, but it shows you what the liberal media would like to hide: New Yorkers do not want the sacred institution of marriage -- ordained by God -- redefined, tampered or destroyed.

If you like the video, please share it with friends and family. We need to create our own media to promote moral values.

Ball: A no who’s proud of his work on the issue

Capital Confidential

He pushed for religious protections, but Sen. Greg Ball, R-Putnam County, declared he will be voting no on same-sex marriage. (We expected this.)

From Ball:

“Knowing that marriage equality was likely to pass, I thought it important to force the issue of religious protections. Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the distinct opportunity of listening to literally thousands of residents, on both sides of this issue, by holding an undecided stance. I thought it was important to listen to all of my constituents and hold an undecided position until the actual bill language was written and everyone’s voice had been heard. Now that the final text is public, I am proud that I have secured some strong protections for religious institutions and basic protections for religious organizations. The bill still lacks many of the basic religious protections I thought were vital, and for this reason, and as I did in the Assembly, I will be voting ‘no.’”

2004 traditional Marriage Rally
These days everyone has a strong opinion about marriage, but no one seems to be sure what it is, exactly. Is it a sacramental union? Is it a public recognition of a committed love relationship? Is it a state scheme for distributing health insurance and tax breaks? Or given what two eminent anthropologists writing recently in support of gay marriage in the Washington Post describe as a "startling diversity of socially approved forms of marriage," is the institution too varied to fit into a single, dictionary-neat meaning?

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has some good issues in his political tool chest but the revision of marriage isn’t one of them. Like his father before him, he placates the radical left wing of the Democratic Party on a social issue — pretending to be Lincoln freeing the slaves — but Cuomo has done none of the preparation or the research on the true nature of marriage in our society.
