41-year old Illinois mechanic Michael Allison faces life in jail for recording police officers after authorities hit him with eavesdropping charges based on the hoax that it is illegal to film cops, a misnomer that has been disproved by every other case against people filming police officers being thrown out of court.

Does any legitimate authority really think that communists targeted the U.S. public education system as a means to transform the American character from rugged individualism to comfortable socialism?

Friday,  in an article on Politico, the argument is advanced that Palin cannot win.  This narrative has long been the snide assertion of the left, but it’s also become an increasing mantra being put forward by Republican pundits and strategists who are generally supporting other candidates, or are thoroughly in bed with one. Bearing in mind this bias against objectivity in editorializing and reporting, it would probably be a worthwhile exercise to assess how accurate these predictions are likely to be.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has asked the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for nearly $350 million to cover the costs he says Texas has incurred incarcerating illegal immigrants in state prisons and county jails.

In a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Perry reiterated a claim he's often leveled against the federal government: that it's not doing enough to secure the border with Mexico and as a result, has allowed illegal immigrants to enter the U.S

The Empire State Building will celebrate the holiday, Eid-al-Fitr, by shining its world-famous tower lights green on August 30, 2011. In Islam, the color green symbolizes a happy occasion and the importance of nature.

Eid-al-Fitr, or "the Festival of Fast-Breaking," is a joyous celebration which commemorates the end of Ramadan and marks the completion of a month of spiritual renewal for the global Muslim community.

Two days ago, the Monroe Township Schools pulled two books off of their summer reading list in response to complaints by parents about the books’ contents. Superintendent Chuck Earling offered as an explanation that “We were not trying to create controversy. We were just trying to get students to read.” The books had been selected by committee and approved by the school district, but the district is now promising to include parents in the selection committee in the future. Why? Because both books contained graphic homosexual imagery.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 16, 2011 /Standard Newswire/ — Larry Klayman, the founder of Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch, today announced that the U.S. District Court for District of Columbia (Honorable Richard Roberts), ruled that a he and others at Freedom Watch may, in principle, gain access to secret White House meetings with lobbyists in the healthcare and related industries over the President's so called Obamacare legislation, and learn whether there has been a change in the "composition" of the group of persons and entities the President and his advisers had been meeting with. Previously, in the months leading up to the controversial Obamacare legislation, the President and his staff had met secretly with lobbyists from Planned Parenthood, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and a host of other special interests seeking to influence the White House and the Democratic Party to craft the bill to their liking.

If you really want to light the fuse of a liberal Democrat, compare Barack Obama's economic performance after 30 months in office with that of Ronald Reagan. It's not at all flattering for Mr. Obama. The two presidents have a lot in common. Both inherited an American economy in collapse. And both applied daring, expensive remedies. Mr. Reagan passed the biggest tax cut ever, combined with an agenda of deregulation, monetary restraint and spending controls.

Judicial Watch has filed a lawsuit over the federal government’s refusal to disclose how much taxpayers spent to send Michelle Obama on a “family outing” that included a safari in Africa.

The organization, which investigates and fights government corruption, earlierdocumented what appears to many to be the extravagant spending by then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Records showed Pelosi cost taxpayers $101,000 for in-flight food and alcohol over a period in 2008 and 2009. At one point she instructed the Air Force to provide chocolate-covered strawberries for a snack, since it was her birthday.

Agents from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service pore through the workshop at the Gibson Guitar factory on Wednesday morning.

Federal agents swooped in on Gibson Guitar Wednesday, raiding factories and offices in Memphis and Nashville, seizing several pallets of wood, electronic files and guitars. The Obama administration is busy expanding the exact type of vicious, ungrateful underclass which recently exploded in London.  An administration program will expand free school meal coverage to millions of young people who are not even supposed to be eligible.

Sigh.

Somebody needs to say this.

Does Ron Paul have a lot of interesting ideas he puts forward as a presidential candidate?

Yes. From his honestly libertarian views (he was the 1988 Libertarian presidential nominee, so he's been at this a long time) to his willingness to challenge the status quo on economics (questioning the role of everything from sugar subsidies to the Federal Reserve) to his emphasis on the Constitution and the Founding Fathers, Congressman Paul has been fearless in sticking with his principles. Question: Does ones very existence affect inter-state commerce?

This is the very question that lay behind the individual mandate (the requirement to purchase health insurance under penalty of fine and/or imprisonment) in Obama Care (the Affordable Care Act). The position of the Obama Administration and the Democrat Party is that your very life affects interstate commerce and a such can be regulated. To believe this is to believe that our Constitution has no meaning. That we are servants of government and that government dictates what are rights are.

For the first time in the history of this nation, a non-political, non-partisan Constitution Lobby has been formed, of, by and for the People of New York.  Why? Comparing what has been written by Scott Conroy (a credible source) and what has been said by Karl Rove and Dick Morris (non credible sources) I have to say that I concur with Levin in this clip. Levin, who was in the movie The Undefeated, learned from the producer of the film that it is scheduled to be released on Pay-Per-View and On-Demand on September 3rd, and suggests that the governor would be taking ‘two bites at the apple’ to make such an announcement on the same day.

Ping: Barack Obama tees off while playing golf at the Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown

Earlier in the day Mr Obama visited the Bunch of Grapes book shop in Vineyard Haven with daughters Malia, 13, and Sasha, 10 and picked up five or six books.

Two recent, seemingly unrelated events weigh heavily on the question of whether America will remain able to protect its national security or languish in failed policies and a federal debt crisis that has led to our credit rating being downgraded.

First was the downing by Taliban guerrillas in Afghanistan of a Chinook helicopter carrying members of Navy SEAL Team 6, inflicting the greatest loss of life ever suffered by that elite military unit.

President Obama is barnstorming the heartland to boost US jobs in a taxpayer-financed luxury bus the government had custom built -- in Canada, The Post has learned.

The $1.1 million vehicle, one of two that Quebec-based Prevost sold the government, has been tricked out by the Secret Service with state-of-the-art security features and creature comforts.

It's a VIP H3-45 model, the company's top of the line, and is used by major traveling rock bands.

So, you may consider those facts as you read through my summary of Perry’s “positives.” He’s not perfect, but I think that when his strengths and weaknesses are compared to his rivals, none has his combination of qualifications, experience, and record of successes. I’ve done quite a lot of research on Governor Perry and I’ve found lots of good and some not-so-good, and the good outweighes the not-so, so I’m not blindly following a messiah, I’m a realist supporting a man that (in my judgement) can beat Obama.

After reading literally thousands of comments, it’s become apparent that there are quite a lot of anti-Perry activists out there throwing all sorts of disparaging rhetorical crap against the wall in hopes that some will stick and they can influence someone, anyone, to become anti-Perry too. The unfortunate thing is that most of their negative statements are either completely false, at worst, or misleading, at best.

Note: there is a link to a separate post detailing the positive things that Rick Perry supporters are saying about him at the end of this piece.

Over the past couple of months Rick Perry has been considering a run for POTUS. As of Saturday, August 13, he’s in with both feet.

Since he’s been Governor of Texas for over ten years, folks from the other “56 states” are asking Texans what kind of governor he’s been and what we think. I decided that what I “think” isn’t good enough – I could be wrong. So, I decided to do some research on Perry’s record and form a more accurate, fact-based opinion on his qualifications instead of relying on my general perceptions.

Rick Perry may be good at invoking states rights and property rights, while disavowing ‘foreign creditors,’ but his actions as Texas’ longest serving governor tell a different story. Public private partnerships (or P3s) are part and parcel of the United Nations’ Agenda 21. Two of the purposes of Agenda 21 are to abolish private property and restrict mobility and P3s act as the vehicle to do it. Perry made P3s a centerpiece of his transportation policy since he stepped in as governor.

President Barack Obama is more exasperated than ever as polls dip, critics multiply, and none of his massive borrowing seems to jump start a stalled economy. He seems bewildered that House Republicans did not immediately agree to his tax increases proposals, and confused over why his serial calls for civility are noted—but quickly forgotten. Obama is also perplexed that businesses—in theory flush with cash after massive layoffs and budget trimming—do not listen when he presses them to start hiring. He cannot quite fathom why his conservative critics do not fully appreciate his achievement of eliminating Osama bin Laden. And the more he now talks about illegal immigration, the wackier fly his metaphors and the edgier the slurs. What happened to the legendary Obama, the "god" whom Newsweek deified in 2008, and who was declared the "smartest" president ever by historian Michael Beschloss?

Standard & Poor's decision to downgrade the nation's credit rating reinforces Democrats' call for increasing tax revenue, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Friday.

This makes the work of the joint committee all the more important, and shows why leaders should appoint members who will approach the committee’s work with an open mind - instead of hardliners who have already ruled out the balanced approach that the markets and rating agencies like S&P are demanding.
